Gardening Volunteer - Bury Red Door

Opportunity image

Red Door is our day centre in Bury which supports people experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless. As a volunteer you would support Red Door in its aims of offering a holistic approach to supporting the whole person, assisting them to have their voice heard and to transform their life with dignity. The people who visit aspire to have a good quality of life and a safe place to live, positive friendships, good health and a purpose in life, and at Red Door we work alongside them to help them to achieve their goals.

What you will be doing:

You will work at our Red Door Day Centre in Bury to support the maintenance of the presbytery garden and the allotment. We have a gated allotment garden with raised beds, a composter, as well as the front presbytery garden and yard area with planters. This role will include maintaining all garden areas, composting fresh food waste from the kitchen, and planning what items to plant with people who use the service.

Mentor and work alongside our Community Volunteers doing practical tasks such as cleaning the area, planting, and general garden maintenance. We aim to enable people who visit the centre to do as many of the practical tasks involved in running the Centre as possible with our general volunteers working alongside them to support and encourage them to do this.
